Lost Time (Between Two Evils)- D.L. Orton

Lost Time (Between Two Evils)- D.L. Orton
 Audiobook Edition

After finishing Crossing in Time, I didn’t even hesitate to jump into book two. I absolutely love when sci-fi and romance collide in a story that’s both brainy and emotional, so I was more than ready for the next chapter in Diego and Isabel’s wild, time-twisting saga.
Right off the bat, this one throws you into a pretty grim alternate futur, and it really works. Diego waking up in a forest, totally disoriented (and naked!), only to end up injured and trapped in a strange biodome world... yeah, not your average sequel opening. The setting this time around is darker, bleaker, and more dystopian, which adds a new layer to the story. I really liked that shift in tone. It made the stakes feel higher, the urgency more intense.
The audiobook narration is strong again, and I appreciate how much emotion the voice actors bring to the characters. You really feel Diego’s frustration, grief, and confusion as he tries to make sense of what went wron and what the hell he's supposed to do next. His relationship with Lani (the doctor who saves his life and kind of hijacks his heart) adds a whole new dynamic. It’s messy and complicated, but also believable given everything they’ve both been through.
That said, I still found myself thinking about Isabel the whole time just like Diego. And when that message arrives and turns everything upside down again? I was all in. The emotional pull between past and present, between hope and regret, really hits hard in this one.
A few small things tripped me up, though. Like with the first book, I occasionally found myself a little lost in the timeline shifts and alternate universe logic. It’s fascinating but also a bit dense at times, and I had to rewind certain parts to really get what was going on. The pacing also slowed down a bit in the middle, especially when the focus shifted more to recovery and internal struggles. Important for the character arc? Yes. But it dragged a little compared to the action-packed start and end.
Still, those are minor things compared to how much I enjoyed the ride. This book digs deeper emotionally and builds out the world in a way that feels satisfying and real. I love how it refuses to be just one thing, it’s part love story, part sci-fi thriller, part survival drama, and all heart.
If you’re into emotional time travel, complex relationships, and morally gray decisions set against an end-of-the-world backdrop, Lost Time is absolutely worth your time. Can’t wait to see where the next one takes us.

Crossing in Time - D.L. Orton

Crossing in Time by D.L. Orton
(Audiobook Edition)

As someone who’s a big fan of both sci-fi and romance, Crossing in Time had my attention the second I read the description. Time travel and a love story with high stakes? Sign me up. That’s exactly the kind of mash-up I enjoy most, so I was really excited to dive into the audiobook.
Right from the start, the concept had me intrigued. The mix of emotional depth and sciencey twists was great, and I loved how the story explores love across time and alternate realities. It’s the kind of thing that scratches that “what if?” itch while still tugging at the heartstrings. That balance is what drew me to the book, and overall, it delivered.
The audiobook itself was well done, and I appreciated the first-person narration from different characters. Switching between three points of view gave the story depth, and the voice actors did a good job bringing the emotions across. That said, I did find the multiple timelines a bit confusing at times, mainly because there isn’t always a clear signal when a new chapter shifts to a different timeline, and some chapters are super short. It took a minute to figure out where (or when) I was.
I liked the characters overall, especially early on, but I have to admit, when future Isabel showed up and interacted with past Diego, I started to get a little annoyed with her. She seemed... different, less likable. Her behavior got a bit grating for me, which was frustrating because I’d been rooting for her up to that point. Also, I’m still not entirely clear why their relationship is so critical to saving the world, it felt a little vague. I’m guessing that becomes clearer in the next book? Either way, I want to know more.
Despite those minor issues, I really enjoyed this as a whole. The story moves fast once you get into it, and the blend of techy sci-fi and intense romance was totally my thing. If you’re into time travel, parallel timelines, and emotional rollercoasters, this one’s worth checking out. I’m definitely continuing the series to see where it all leads.
